VIJAYAWADA:Mayor of Altlandsberg in Germany Gujjala Ravindra Reddy has said that civil society has become a crucial terrain for the battle of ideas and winning over the minds of the people.

Speaking at the seminar on ‘Role of Progressive Thinkers in Present Society’ organised by All India Progressive Forum, Krishna district unit, at Ilapuram convention centre here on Sunday, he said that the struggle to preserve and develop democracy has become crucial. In the face of certain national and international developments, it is essential to defend democracy and for that progressive thinkers should first understand the present situation of society well.

“The government should bear in mind the welfare of the poor before implementing developmental plans. Most of the governmental plans focus on developing the economy and neglect the poor of society,” said Ravindra.

Stating that there is no dearth of intellectual prowess in India, he said taking advantage of the situation in India, other countries are attracting intellectuals from India offering attractive pay package and other benefits, he explained.
