KADAPA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will attend the ‘Kalyanotsavam’ (celestial wedding) of Vontimitta Sri Kodandarama Swamy to be held on April 2.
Speaking to mediapersons at Vontimitta on Sunday, government whip and Rajampet MLA Meda Mallikarjuna Reddy said that the Chief Minister along with Governor ESL Narasimhan will participate in the Lord’s Kalyanam scheduled to be held between 10 pm and 11 pm.
Both the dignitaries will offer Silk Robes and Muthyala Thalambralu to the Lord’s Kalyanam on behalf of the state government on that day, he said.
He further said that as part of his visit to Vontimitta, the chief minister will lay foundation stones for lift irrigation schemes aimed at bringing water to Vontimitta from Somasila back waters and also for the housing colony being constructed to provide residences with all the required infrastructure to all the 86 oustees, who had to vacate their houses to make way for the expansion of the famous temple.
Meanwhile, Congress leader C Ramachandraiah, who along with his wife came to the Vontimitta temple for darshan, expressed happiness over the government organising Srirama Navami fete in the ancient temple.
“Though Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has done nothing for Kadapa district, at least he gave it honour by deciding to conduct the Srirama Navami celebrations in Vontimitta temple of the district,” he said.
He said that the development of the temple will give scope for generation of employment.
On the occasion, he also urged the government to take steps for supplying irrigation and drinking water to Vontimitta.
Procession of Idols on Hamsa Vahanam
As part of the third day of the ongoing Brahmotsavams, the procession idols of the Vontimitta Sri Kodandarama Swamy, Seeta and Lakshmana were taken out in a procession around the Mada Streets on ‘Hamsa Vahanam’ on Sunday. A large number of devotees witnessed the event.
