VISAKHAPATNAM:The Labour Department of Visakhapatnam organised a workshop in collaboration with the UNICEF Wednesday to spread awareness on the elimination of child labour, and on child rights’ protection, among officers dealing with the enforcement of child rights in various departments at district-level. The meeting was chaired by R Srinivasa Rao, deputy commissioner of labour, Visakhapatnam, and N Yuvaraj, district collector, was the chief guest.
Addressing the workshop, Yuvaraj asked the NGOs and officials to cooperate with the government to focus on the field work in making Visakhapatnam free of child labour. He also said that all children should go to school and truants will be punished. Srinivasa Rao said that follow-up action should be taken to make the city child labour-free by December.
