'Hypertension a Silent Killer'

VIJAYAWADA: Hypertension damages the functioning of brain, heart and kidneys and also leads to death, said Chief Cardiologist G Ramesh, Kamineni Hospitals while cautioning people not to ignore it.

Addressing mediapersons here on Sunday, he said hypertension is a silent killer, as there will be no symptoms to identify the disease in initial stages and out of 50 only 12 people will be cured through proper medication. “In those who drink and smoke, the functioning of brain will be affected up to 20 per cent due to hypertension and their veins become very thin and it is called haemorrhagic stroke”, he said.

Chief consultant neurologist V Naveen Kumar said that awareness programmes for the people were conducted on the occasion of World Hypertension Day on May 17. People should follow a strict diet to reduce the effects of hypertension and proper medication is compulsory to control it, he said. Kamineni Hospitals are offering the latest medical services for the people round-the-clock, he said.
