SRIKAKULAM:In a case of a rescue attempt that went horribly wrong, a homemaker died after she reportedly got into a septic tank under construction to help her husband who had got in and fallen unconscious, at Hiramandalam in Srikakulam Sunday night. The deceased was identified as V Aruna (23), a resident of Hiramandalam.
Sources said that Aruna’s husband V Ramesh, a mason, got into the 10-ft high septic tank. The tank was reportedly covered with a slab balanced with wooden rods.Ramesh, who got into the tank, fell unconscious due to lack of oxygen inside. His wife Aruna, upon noticing it, tried to save him by getting into the tank herself. However, she too, got stuck.
Locals who noticed the duo pulled them out and rushed them to RIMS. However, Aruna died on the way to hospital, while Ramesh survived and is currently undergoing treatment. Police are investigating.
