Vishakapatnam to be Decked Up for Investors Summit, IFR

VIZIANAGARAM: Visakhpatnam, which is proposed to become Smart City, will be beautified and developed with the best infrastructure before the proposed Global Investors’ Summit in January next year, followed by the International Fleet Review (IFR) in February, said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The officials were instructed to prepare an action plan for the development and beautification of the city.

Considering the two major international events besides several other programmes to be organised for grabbing global attention, the CM, who concluded his two-day tour here Sunday, asked the authorities to extend support for creation of infrastructure, including hotels and a convention centre in the city.

The State Government, in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry and the Union Government, would hold a Global Investors’ Summit in Visakhapatnam in January next year. The summit is aimed at showcasing Brand Vizag, where the city would be developed into a hub for various sectors ranging from IT to industries, trade to tourism, and education to health among others. Delegates from over 80 nations are expected to participate.

The district authorities have also been instructed to work in close coordination with the Navy officials, with the support of the police and the municipal officials, to make the International Fleet Review a grand success.

It is proposed to take up beautification of the Vizag Airport in consultation with the Airport Authority of India. For wooing tourists, the government is contemplating holding water sports as a prelude to the IFR.

Naidu also approved the proposal for completion of a convention centre on Andhra University premises on the Beach Road and promised to sanction `5.9 crore for its completion. The convention centre will be ready by December-end. He instructed the authorities to ensure that there was no open defecation or urination.
