National Award for Srikulam Village

SRIKAKULAM:  Collector P Lakshmi Nrusimham received the Sakshara Bharat award from President Pranab Mukherjee at a function held at New Delhi Tuesday. Poosarlapadu village, Gara Mandal in the district was selected for the award as it achieved 80 per cent literacy and also stood first in empowering self help groups. Around 50 SHGs have been formed and all the members of the groups have been educated under the Sakshara Bharat mission.

Taking into account these facts, the Government of India selected the village for the national award. On the occasion of the International Literacy Day celebrations, President Pranab Mukherjee presented the award to the collector.
