GUNTUR: Vigilance sleuths seized nearly 20 tonne public distribution system (PDS) rice at the Housing Board Colony here Saturday.
Acting on a tip off on the transportation of rice intended for public distribution, the officials intercepted the lorry and seized the rice bags. They also seized the lorry and took its driver Seshagiri into custody.
When contacted, vigilance department tahsildar T Srinivas said that they seized the rice while it was being transported to Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district from Dachepalle mandal in Guntur.
“We have registered a case and inquiry is on to find out those involved in the illegal transportation of the rice and how they procured it,” he said.
