7 of Family Die as Car Falls into Canal

GUNTUR:Seven persons of a family, including two women and two children, died when the car they were travelling in fell into a canal between Takkellapadu and Phirangipalem villages under Phirangipuram mandal limits in Guntur district on Saturday evening. However, a woman, Fathimbee (55), survived with injuries.

According to police, the family from Phirangipuram was returning from Amaravathi when the mishap occurred.

Under heavy rain, the driver lost control over the vehicle and it skidded into the roadside canal. With the doors of the car not opening and water gushing into the car, seven occupants died.

The victims were identified as Sheiksyam (25), Sheik Asha (23), Saida (30), Subani (34), Sheik Maneesha (16), Sania (9) and Shahi (7). Guntur Rural SP K Narayan Naik inspected the spot.

Phirangipuram police registered a case. The bodies were sent to Guntur Government General Hospital for postmortem.
