Statues' Erection Rocks Council Meeting

SRIKAKULAM:The erection of statues on the main road here has rocked Amudalavasa municipal council meeting as members of both the ruling and Opposition parties had heated arguments. Government Whip Kuna Ravi Kumar who actively took part in the debate was interrupted by the Opposition.

The meeting was presided by municipal chairperson Tammineni Geeta. The YSRC members alleged that the government had been allowing erection of statues recommended by the ruling party members, while it was ignoring the recommendations of the Opposition. They also raised an allegation that the  municipal commissioner had been favouring the ruling party and approving anything done by them. The Oppositions’ allegations included, commissioner booking cases against the members of the YSRC, who tried to erect statues of their leaders and also the commissioner letting off the hook the TDP members who were erecting statues as per their wish, but booking cases against people who erected even BR Ambedkar statue.

Heated arguments by both the sides led to chaos. Even the government whip and chairperson Geeta joined the fray. The YSRC members staged a protest near the chairperson’s podium, raising slogans against the ruling party. They also demanded withdrawal of the cases against the Opposition members. In the melee the meeting was adjourned.
