'Resist Bid to Snatch Land'

VIJAYAWADA: CPI called upon its state cadre to get ready to battle it out with the state government in its efforts to snatch away land from poor farmers in the name of land banks and provide the land to the corporate bigwigs in the name of industrialisation.

On the final day of its two-day state executive committee meeting here Monday, CPI leaders wanted activists and sympathisers of the Left parties to unite to save the lands of the poor and downtrodden.

They said for years, forest lands and government lands have been cultivated by poor farmers on lease basis or in the form of assigned lands. Now the same are being taken over by the government. They claimed the government in next four months has ambitious target set before officials to acquire 7.64 lakh acres. They wondered what the government proposed to do for land distribution to the landless if it takes over the last inch of land in the name of development.
