Three electrocuted, two injured in Nuzvid

VIJAYAWADA:In the mood of celebrating Milad-un-Nabi, three youngsters died of electrocution and two were injured severely at MR Apparao Colony in Nuzvid on Monday.

According to police, Sheikh Kalisha (25) and Sheikh Tanvir Basha (21), both daily wage workers, along with auto driver Sheikh Ismail (22), Sheikh Sharif (55), and Sheikh Basha (40), tried to erect an 18 feet iron pole tied with flags, marking Milad-un-Nabi, near their residences in MR Apparao Colony. But, the pole came in contact with 11KV high tension wires nearby and they were electrocuted.

They all suffered serious burns and were rushed to nearby hospital where Kalisha, Tanvir Basha and Ismail were declared brought dead by the doctors. The latter two are undergoing treatment. The electricity department announced ex-gratia worth `2 lakh to the kin of the deceased. Meanwhile, locals alleged that despite their alerting the electricity officials about the high tension wires passing over their colony at lesser height, the latter did not initiate any action.
