Coastal Andhra Pradesh Likely to Experience Heatwave Conditions

VISAKHAPATNAM:  Though there is respite from the scorching heat, people of coastal Andhra Pradesh are likely to experience heatwave conditions in the next three months.

Hinting at the climate conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had already issued a warning stating that the temperatures would soar by at least 1.5 to 2 degree Celsius above normal.

When compared to past two to three weeks, the temperatures fell down in the coastal AP.

Visakhapatnam recorded around 37 to 38 degree Celsius in the second week of March but during the last couple of days, temperature has been hovering around 33 to 35 degree Celsius.

Vizianagaram and Srikakulam disdtrict have also recorded about 32 to 33 degrees Celsius in the last one week.

Palakonda, Pathapatnam and Seethampeta in Srikakulam district have been recording almost one to two degree Celsius higher than the Srikakulam town.  

Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram district authorities say they have not registered any heatwave deaths till now, but Srikakulam district has registered two deaths so far.

Ryot Dies of Sunstroke

Vizianagaram: A farmer died of sunstroke at Chinthalapadu village of  Gimmalakshmipuram mandal on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Kola Nageswara Rao (40), a resident of Chinthalapadu.

Rao went to his agricultural fields on Sunday morning and did not return home. Worried, Rao’s wife went searching for him and found him lying unconscious in the fields. Rao was rushed to a hospitals where doctor declared him brought dead.

NREGS Works Rescheduled

Keeping in view the deaths of NREGS workers during work in the coastal AP last year, the district administrations had already rescheduled the timings from 7 am to 11 pm, and again after 4 pm. District medical and health officer (Vizianagaram) U Swarajya Lakhmi said that they had already appealed to the senior beneficiaries not to come for work this summer. She also said that they were focussing on the rural agency areas like Salur and Parvathipuram. They are also creating awareness with the help of ASHA  workers on dehydration and measures to be taken during summer for children and senior citizens. A duty officer from the Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC), Visakhapatnam, said that the temperatures are normal in the north coastal AP but when the season commences, definitely there would be increase in temperatures.
