Police Stations in AP to Have Special Juvenile Units

HYDERABAD:  Very soon, special juvenile police units (SJPUs) will come up at each police station across AP to perform duties under Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act-2015, while dealing with juveniles.

As per Section 107 of the Juvenile Justice Act-2015, the AP government has also asked the police higher-ups to designate one officer in each police station as child welfare police officer (CWPO) to take care of these units.

According to an order issued here on Thursday, AP director general of police JV Ramudu had earlier furnished proposal for designating the SHOs as CWPOs in each police station.

It may  be noted that under Section 107 of Juvenile Justice Act-2015, the government is mandated to create SJPUs at the district-level. It is also supposed to appoint CWPO at the police station level to perform duties under the Juvenile Justice Act while dealing with juveniles.
