Tribal Woman Rape Case: Four Accused Held

VIZIANAGARAM: The police arrested four persons who allegedly gangraped a tribal woman on Sunday. The incident which happened on Thursday, came to light on Friday after the victim’s relatives lodged a complaint with the police.

The accused have been identified as Adinarayana, Sankara Rao, Lakshman and Chinna Rao.

It may be recalled that the incident happened when the 30-years-old tribal woman belonging to Mulapadu village of Mentada mandal was waiting at a bus shelter for returning home in a nearby village. The four accused noticing her alone, intervened and forcibly dragged her to an isolated area and raped her. Before fleeing the spot the culprits also robbed her of `5,000. Police who investigated the case had immediately launched a manhunt.

Speaking to mediapersons, superintendent of police Navadeep Singh said: “Initially we interrogated a few locals at the crime spot, which helped us identify the main accused. With this lead all the four were nabbed.” All the accused have been sent on remand and further investigation is on.
