Malleswari Killer Sentenced to Life Imprisonment

VIJAYAWADA: Women Sessions Court in Vijayawada on Tuesday sentenced IS Naik, accused in the murder of B Malleswari four and half years ago, to life imprisonment. Judge VA Chakravarthi gave the verdict after examining 13 witnesses in the case.

Naik, a 28-year old lorry driver in Vambay colony of Vijayawada city had an extramarital relationship with B Malleswari (26), who had separated from her husband owing to differences. For three and half years, they were in live-in relationship. After some time, he started suspecting her fidelity and resorted to physical and mental harassment.

On May 7, 2011, after a quarrel with her, he poured kerosene and set her ablaze. She died after four days while undergoing treatment.

Woman Tries to End Life

Eluru: A 30-year-old housewife attempted suicide by dousing herself with kerosene at Ratnalakunta village in Pedavegi mandal of West Godavari district on Tuesday morning. According to the police, Geddam Durga married Madhu three months back. Earlier, she was married to one Somaraju, who died four years back. For the last one month, Madhu started harassing and abusing her. On Monday night, both quarreled at their house. In the morning around 6 am, she poured kerosene and set herself afire. Hearing her cries, her husband woke up and neighbours too came to douse the flames. Later, she was admitted to Eluru Government hospital. Doctors said her condition is critical.
