Cops on Maoist

VISAKHAPATNAM: Two Maoists were killed in an exchange of fire between the banned extremists and the police forces in the interior forests near Valakapudi area of Koyyuru mandal in Visakhapatnam agency on Sunday afternoon.

The police allegedly recovered two rifles and some kit bags from the spot. Senior police authorities left for the encounter spot to ascertain further details. Koyyuru Circle Inspector Soma Sekhar said that as per the information received by them, a gun battle ensued when the police teams and the Maoists came face-to-face during a combing operation by the former.

"We are likely to reach the spot by evening. Being inside the interior forest area, reaching the spot would take more time, and then we would confirm about the death, recoveries or whether the deceased include any wanted Maoists", he added.
