VISAKHAPATNAM: The second phase of the pulse polio programme was implemented successfully in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts on Sunday. The medical and health departments of the three districts conducted the programme. Ministers, collectors, joint collectors, MLAs, MLCs, MPs, officials and a large number of social workers took part in the programme. The officials also arranged special volunteers at bus stations, railway stations, fairs and at local festivals to administer the pulse polio drops to children from 0 to 5 years.
In Visakhapatnam, HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao inaugurated the programme at specially arranged pulse polio camp in MVP Colony. Collector N Yuvaraj was present at the primary health centre at China Waltair in the city. DMHO J Sarojani and other officials were present.
In Vizianagaram, collector MM Naik inaugurated the programme at VT Agraharam in the town. On the occasion, the collector said that with the periodical collective pulse polio programme, the polio was eradicated in the country. Later, the collector visited various places in the VT Agraharam. He checked the drainages, streetlights and ongoing road laying works. DMHO U Swarajya Lakshmi and Vizianagaram municipal commissioner Nagaraju were present.
In Srikakulam, minister K Atchhennaidu was present at primary health centre in Gara mandal in the district. On the occasion, the minister elaborated on various government programmes, particularly in the health sector. He urged people to avail of the services of 102 Mother and Child Express and free medical check-ups. The medical and health staff would make door- to-door visits on Monday and Tuesday and administer the polio drops to the leftout children, the minister added.
Zilla parishad chairperson Ch Dhanalakshmi, MP K Rammohannaidu, MLA Gunda Lakshmidevi and DMHO R Shyamala were present.
