Former Maoist Attempts Suicide

NALGONDA: Former Maoist leader Boppani Ramakrishna attempted to commit suicide by consuming an overdose of headache pills at his house in Nalgonda on Thursday. He said he has not planned to kill Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham and has no role in the threat letter sent the police.

It may be recalled that on Feb 1, district police received a letter from unknown persons stating Boppani Ramakrishna was planning to kill Nakrekal TRS MLA Vemula Veeresham for `10 crore supari.

In view of the warning letter, police alerted the MLA. However, after 25 days of release of letter, Ramakrishna attempted suicide fearing police enquiries and subsequent torture.

Meanwhile, district ASP Gangaram speaking to Express said they were not harassing any person regarding the letter and had no idea of whereabouts of Ramakrishna. “We came to know he was residing in Nalgonda town only after we got information about him being admitted in government hospital at Nalgonda on Thursday. Several cases booked against him are pending,” the official added.
