VISAKHAPATNAM: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday registered a case against a sub-postmaster on charge of misappropriating Rs 37 lakh which was released towards the wages of MGNREGS beneficiaries.
Botsa Peda Rama Rao, the sub-postmaster of Donkinavalasa and Uttaravilli area in Vizianagaram district, had misappropriated the amount between 2013 and 2015 by submitting forged documents at the branch post office, said a press note released by the CBI on Friday. Rama Rao received Rs 41.1 lakh from the Head Post Office, Bobbili towards the wage payment of the beneficiaries of which he had distributed only Rs 4.1 lakh.
The CBI team conducted a search at Rama Rao's house at Sativada and Gara areas in Srikakulam district and Muralinagar area in Vizag and registered a case.
