HYDERABAD: AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu appears to have decided to challenge all the ‘controversial’ irrigation projects proposed by the Telangana government on Krishna and Godavari rivers before the Supreme Court, besides seeking Centre’s intervention to stall these projects.
Naidu, who had recently written a letter to Union water resources minister Uma Bharti requesting her to notify the jurisdiction of the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to monitor projects on the Krishna river, on Saturday night called on governor ESL Narasimhan here and reportedly urged the latter to convey the state government’s objection to TS irrigation project to the Centre.
According to sources, during the meeting, the chief minister told the governor that his government would not compromise on the interests of the state. Hence, he reportedly informed the governor about his government’s decision to take legal recourse to stall the proposed irrigation projects by the TS government.
It is learnt that during the meeting, Naidu told the governor about his government’s decision to shift ‘seat of power’ to Amaravati by June 27.
Earlier in the day, Naidu had a series of meetings with higher-ups of the irrigation department in Vijayawada. During the meetings, which was attended by irrigation minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, Naidu reportedly asked the officials to formulate arguments over the proposed TS irrigation projects to be presented before the apex court.
