KADAPA: Bearing a grudge for being pulled up by his senior often, a doctor working at a government hospital in Proddatur of Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh attacked the hospital superintendent with an injection containing HIV infected blood.
The incident took place on Friday and came to light late in the night.
David Raj, an orthopedician working with Proddatur Government Hospital since 2014, attacked hospital superintendent K Lakshmi Prasad, when he was making rounds in the hospital wards. However, the attacker did not inject the blood, but only sprayed on the supervisor's dress.
Following the incident, Kadapa district coordinator of hospital services Dr Jayaraj summoned both the doctors and enquired about the matter. David Raj confessed that he attacked with the syringe, but only to scare the supervisor. He was asked to go on a long leave.
Speaking to Express, Jayaraj said that David Raj was upset over being pulled up by the superintendent for dereliction of duties and hence acted in such a manner. He said, “An inquiry report will be submitted to Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad and also to the district collector,” and added that departmental action would be initiated.
Meanwhile, police officials said they have not received any complaint regarding the incident from hospital superintendent or any other person. On the other hand, Proddatur Doctors Association said David Raj had undergone bypass surgery and was under depression.
