Revenue staff up in arms as contractor attacks official in Andhra Pradesh

Demanding officials to release the pending bills for the road cleaning vehicle supplied, a contractor attacked an official of Anantapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Monday.

ANANTAPUR: Demanding officials to release the pending bills for the road cleaning vehicle supplied, a contractor attacked an official of Anantapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Monday. The incident came to light on Tuesday when the deputy engineer supported with other employees complained SP GVG Ashok Kumar, demanding that the accused contractor be arrested. 

The contractor, Narasimha Reddy from Jammalamadugu of Kadapa district supplied a road cleaning machine to the AMC on rent. Recently, AMC officials have cleared `15 lakh of pending bills and asked him to wait for a few days to release the balance amount of `13 lakh. 
When DE Kishtappa received complaints from workers that vehicle was not up to the standards, he delayed the release of funds to the contractor.

Angry with this development, Narasimha Reddy reached the AMC office and threatened Kishtappa and other officials of dire consequences. Hours later, when Kishtappa was on his way home on a bike, Reddy, along with his henchmen, chased him in the car and beat up severely at Raghuveera Towers. Demanding action, MLA Vykuntam Prabhakar Chowdary, Mayor Madamanchi Swaroopa, AMC Commissioner Satyanarayana Murthy staged a protest.
