GUNTUR: Road widening works taken up in the city have been temporarily put on hold following a direction by District Collector K Sasidhar.

As the underground drainage system and laying of drinking water pipelines have been taken up by the Guntur Municipal Corporation  Sasidhar decided to get the works completed first so that new roads won't be damaged. The road widening works which commenced before the start of Krishna Pushkaralu last year, have remained incomplete.

Considering that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done, the Collector put the works on hold temporarily. Sasidhar felt that since the road works might take more time for completion, priority should be given to the underground drainage system and drinking water supply.
Greenery and beautification works would also be taken up in the city at a cost of R13 crore.

The logic behind the decision seems to be that if the road widening works are completed before the execution of underground drainage system and laying of drinking water pipelines, the newly laid roads need to be dug up and re-carpeted again causing additional expenditure.
GMC initiated steps to execute underground drainage, laying of drinking water pipeline and city beautification works simultaneously.
