VIJAYAWADA: The unemployment allowance promised by the state government is likely to remain a pie in the sky for a majority of Andhras who have failed to land a job. Reason: To qualify for dole, one has to satisfy a whopping 32 conditions.The Department of Youth Affairs has formulated a list of eligibility criteria and is preparing to present them before the Cabinet scheduled to meet on November 1. According to information trickling out from the Department, unemployment allowance will be in the form of wages for doing “social work” including popularising government programmes among people in villages.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, without divulging the contours of the programme, announced last Independence Day at Tirupati that sooner than later, the government would provide unemployed youth allowance to help them meet their day-to-day expenses. A sub-committee constituted to draw up the scheme consists of Ministers P Narayana, Y Ramakrishnudu, K Ravindra and N Lokesh. The committee after a careful study went over various options to extend the benefit to the unemployed youth, 8.8 lakh of whom are registered with employment exchanges.
The first condition is that the applicant should be between 18 and 35 years and be registered with an employment exchange. The other conditions include eligibility only for one person per family that too after below poverty line status is proved.The applicants should have finished their education and be waiting for employment. Those in colleges will not be eligible for dole. Those who work in private institutions and those seeking self-employment are also ineligible.
