GUNTUR: The GMC has set up a call centre with phone No: 0863 2345105 to contain the spread of seasonal diseases in the city. It has constituted 53 teams to cover 53,000 houses in the 190 identified slums in the city and create an awareness among people about precautions to be taken to prevent the outbreak of seasonal diseases. Each team consists of four members drawn from malaria, sanitation, medical and health departments and a social volunteer. 

An awareness programme was conducted for the teams at the GMC here on Tuesday. Speaking at the programme, GMC Commissioner Ch Anuradha listed out the steps taken by the municipal corporation to prevent seasonal diseases in the city. The 53 teams will make door-to-door visits and educate people on vector-borne diseases and precautionary measures to be taken to keep them at bay. The blood samples of people suffering from illness will be collected. 

Anti-larval and fogging operations will be conducted in slum areas. Stagnation of water and clogging of drains will be cleared to improve sanitation. Citizens can contact the call centre pertaining to health related issues, she said.  District Medical and Health Officer T Ramesh said Domalapai Dandayatra programme would be organised in the city effectively as part of measures to curb the mosquito menace.    
District Malaria Officer KVS Prasad, GMC Additional Commissioner K Ramachandra Reddy, Deputy Commissioners M Yesudas and D Srinivasa Rao, MHO Shobha Rani, Biologist Veeraju and others attended the programme.

11 students admitted to  GGH with leg swelling
Kakinada:
Eleven students of the Andhra Pradesh Tribal Welfare Residential Junior College at Chintoor were admitted to the Government General Hospital in the city with leg swelling. Having learnt about the illness of students of Tribal Welfare Residential Junior College, Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu visited the hospital on Tuesday and enquired about their health condition.
