VIJAYAWADA: As the government’s decision to implement English as medium of instruction from Class 1 to 9 in all the municipal schools in the State from the current academic year drew flak from  all sections, Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana on Thursday said the consent of parents would be taken in this regard before going ahead on the move.

He said as students of government schools were not able to fare well in their studies on par with their counterparts in private institutions due to lack of adequate knowledge in English, it was decided to introduce English medium for them.

“Despite having talent, Telugu medium students are not able to fare well in competitive examinations due to lack of command over English. Hence, we have introduced English medium in government schools to brighten the career prospects of the students,” he said.
