Vishakapatnam woman dies as hut catches fire

The fire spread to the nearby hay that was stacked around the house and burnt her to death., sources said.

VISAKHAPATNAM: In a freak incident, a 42-year-old woman was burnt to death when the bonfire near her house spread to the thatched hut at Varthanapalli Colony of Kadeli panchayat in Paderu mandal in Visakhapatnam agency. The incident occurred late on Thursday night.

The deceased has been identified as Pangi Chilakamma (42), a resident of Paderu.

According to sources, the woman lit the bonfire to keep herself warm from the biting cold on Thursday night. The fire spread to the nearby hay that was stacked around the house and burnt her to death. Sources said that the woman was charred beyond recognition. This was the second such case this month. A 45-year-old person died in similar circumstances at Hukumpeta on January 1.
