RTC Pallevelugu buses of Andhra Pradesh's Guntur Region to get GPS

The new initiative is aimed at augmenting revenue by winning the trust of people

GUNTUR: As part of a strategy to come out of the red, the APSRTC Guntur Region has decided to instal the Global Positioning System (GPS) in all its buses to streamline the services and increase the occupancy ratio.

Guntur RTC Regional Manager G Srihari said: “The GPS will be installed in all the 1,100 buses attached to 13 depots in the region, including Pallevelugu services, within two weeks. The initiative is aimed at winning the trust of people. For advance reservation in long distance bus services, the RTC has already come up with apsrtconline.in, which evoked a good response from passengers.”

At present, the Guntur RTC Region is running in `33 crore loss. As the RTC management has cleared dues worth `30 crore to its employees this fiscal, the total deficit of the region has increased to `63 crore. The demonetisation of higher value notes and acute cash crunch in the festival season have affected the revenue of the RTC. Hence, the RTC management is coming up with novel initiatives to enhance its revenue by increasing the occupancy ratio in buses.

The new Android app of the RTC is immensely useful to people as it has several novel features. It enables them to have all information pertaining to the RTC bus services at their fingertips, the Regional Manager said.

Mulakaluru Sudhakar of Guntur who went on a pilgrimage to Tirupati along with his family recently, said: “The RTC mobile app enabled us to complete the pilgrimage without any hassles.”
