KADAPA: Thirty-four of the 60 injured in the Vontimitta tragedy were discharged from RIMS Hospital in Kadapa on Saturday even as 16 are still undergoing treatment at the orthopaedic wing of the institute. However, their condition is reportedly stable.
The temporary sheds erected for the annual Sitarama Kalyanam at the Vontimitta Temple collapsed on Friday due to strong winds and hailstorm that lashed the region unexpectedly, killing four people.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who visited the injured at RIMS hospital directed district collector T Babu Rao and other officials to ensure treatment for all the injured. Later, during a review meeting, he pulled up officials concerned for sloppy arrangements.
District officials and TTD workers who managed the Kodandarama Temple were severely reprimanded and asked to ensure that such lapses do not reoccur. Naidu suggested that a permanent kalyana mandapam be erected at the temple to prevent accidents.
