KADAPA: District police late on Wednesday arrested lifer and notorious criminal M Sunil Kumar from Bengaluru and brought him to Kadapa on Thursday morning.  The gangster, who gave cops the slip on March 27 while being taken to Kadapa Central Jail from Kurnool after a court hearing, made a vain bid to escape again.

During interrogation, Sunil said he fled the police in March by getting into a car his associates — Gopal and Srinivas — readied at Konda Ganganamma Temple in Pendlimarri. He then got off the car and sped to Chinna Cheppali on a motorcycle, where he stayed overnight. The next day, he stole a bike and rode to Yerraguntla and caught a train to Bellary in Karnataka from where he went to Hospet. He lied low in a hotel for two days before going to Mumbai on a bus on April 1 and finally went to Bangalore the next day. He has handed over the firearms he snatched from the constables who were escorting him.

Sunil tried to escape while being escorted from Bengaluru to Kadapa by pelting stones on police personnel who had accompanied him when he said he wanted to attend nature’s call. The incident happened at Tadigotla crossroad in Chintakomma Dinne mandal in Kadapa district.
