VIJAYAWADA: A protest by PG students of the NTR College of Veterinary Science at Gannavaram on Saturday has resulted in lockdown of the campus.

The students claimed the State government was not responding to their demands, which is upgradation of Rural Livestock Units (RLUs) as veterinary dispensaries. The move, they said, would provide employment and better services to farmers.

The gates of the institution were locked from 9 am to 11.30 am. Y Yashwant Naidu, the vice-president of the AP Veterinary Students and Graduates Association, said: “We will continue our strike until our demands are carried out by the government. If it upgrades the RLU’s as veterinary dispensaries, it will be a benefit for farmers as well as unemployed graduates.”
