Andhra Pradesh: Foundation stone for IIP and IIFT laid on second day of CII Partnership Summit

VISHAKHAPATNAM: The foundation to set up permanent campuses of Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) and Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) in the Kakinada special economic zone were laid down on Sunday by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union minister for commerce Suresh Prabhu.

On the second day of the CII Partnership Summit-2018 here on Sunday, the CM and Union minister unveiled the plaques for both the institutes which were allotted 25 acres each. Both the campuses will be developed in a phased manner in three-five years.

Earlier in the day, CM Naidu delivered the keynote address in a special plenary session on ‘Technologies for Tomorrow’ where he highlighted the Real Time Governance initiatives the state government adopted. He explained that he is planning to develop systems ala Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant which immediately respond to the users. “We want to develop such a system so that the people’s grievances would be immediately resolved,” he said. On the occasion, a demonstration using Alexa, which was customised to the Real Time Governance system of the state government, was held.

The CM elaborated on the initiatives like e-Pragati, which will be implemented in all government departments by March 31, Bhudhaar land records, Internet of Thing and others.

 At the end of the session, a MoU was exchanged between the IT Minister Nara Lokesh and Ace Urban Group, which proposed to invest Rs 3,220 crore in Visakhapatnam with a focus on blockchain development, cloud computing and other IoT projects. The MoU is expected to generate an employment of 18,000.

Later, the CM also participated in the exchange of MoUs in textiles, Aerospace and Defence and other sectors. A total of 29 MoUs were signed in the textile industry with an estimated investment of Rs 5,137 crore, projected to create 32,442 jobs.  Another MoU has been inked with  National Research Development Corporation for setting up a Technology and Innovation Support Centre in Visakhapatnam.  Another 27 agreements in the health and medical sector are scheduled to be inked in the later sessions.

The CM and Union minister Suresh Prabhu also participated in a plenary session on the ease of doing business and promoted the brand Sunrise Andhra Pradesh. The duo also inaugurated an e-portal for facilitating the trade of spices and also distributed enrolment cards to aqua farmers.
