190 more booths may come up in Guntur districts

District Collector Kona Sasidhar said here on Thursday that additional polling booths would be established if the number of votes exceeds 1,100 at any polling booth in Guntur district.

GUNTUR: District Collector Kona Sasidhar said here on Thursday that additional polling booths would be established if the number of votes exceeds 1,100 at any polling booth in Guntur district as per the new directions of the Election Commission.

The Collector convened a meeting with officials and representatives of political parties about the new polling booths in the collectorate at Guntur on Thursday. He said the Revenue Department would submit a proposal as per the voters’ list in the 17 Assembly constituencies of Guntur to set up 190 more polling booths as per the directions of Election Commission. He said presently there are 4,226 polling booths in the 17 Assembly constituencies in Guntur district.

The Revenue department would take up establishment of polling booths as per further directions of the Election Commission. He sought the support of leaders of political parties.

Guntur district joint collector A Md Imtiyaz, Guntur Municipal Corporation commissioner Srikesh B Lathkar, joint collector Vijaya Chandar, DRO K Naga Babu, TDP leader Lal Vazeer, YSRC MLA G Srinivasa Reddy, leader Ambati Ram Babu, BJP leader K Venkatrao, CPM leader Kalidas and others participated.
