RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: Dr Rajendra Singh, popularly known as the ‘waterman of India’, has stressed the need for protection of River Godavari and said it plays a very important role as it is historically and culturally very relevant.
Speaking on the concluding day of National Convention on Rejuvenation of River Godavari here on Sunday, he said it was the responsibility of the six states that share the river water to protect and conserve it.
At the convention, it was decided that awareness programmes on River Godavari would be scheduled for the common people. Dr Singh further stressed the need for making the water body free of pollution. A petition would be filed with the High Court regarding chemical substances released into the river by various factories that pollute it, a dignitary in the seminar said.
