Guntur schools defy holiday order

Many private schools in the Guntur district defied the orders and were still holding classes.

GUNTUR: Though the government announced holidays for schools from June 19 to 21 on account of high temperatures in the State, the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) alleged that many private schools in the Guntur district defied the orders and were still holding classes.

The SFI’s district committee president, P Manoj Kumar, and secretary, V Bhagvan Das, said they visited many private schools in Guntur city, Narasararaopet, Sattenapalli, Piduguralla and Mangalagiri and found that the classes were ongoing. They lodged a complaint with the DEO RS Ganga Bhavani about the same. They also alleged that Oxford School of the district was selling text books and stationary items.

After verifying the claims, the DEO seized the stocks and imposed `one lakh fine on the school. Action was also taken against the schools that disobeyed the orders and were also asked to stop classes with immediate effect.
