HC issues notice to Telangana government on Backward Classes reservation

The petitioner’s counsel submitted that the Telangana government failed to incorporate reservations in favour of BCs as group-wise.

HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court on Thursday issued notices to the Telangana government for filing counter affidavit in a petition filed challenging the inaction of the state government in not providing reservations to BCs for A, B, C and D categories in Panchayat elections. 

The bench of Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice J Uma Devi was dealing with a petition by MBC association (Most Backward Class Sangham), which challenged the Section 9(4) of Telangana Panchayat Raj Act for not providing category-wise reservations.  The petitioner’s counsel submitted that the Telangana government failed to incorporate reservations in favour of BCs as group-wise.
