Four killed as car rams stationary tanker in Guntur

GUNTUR: Four persons were killed on the spot and nine others sustained minor injuries when their car rammed a stationary tanker from behind on Addanki-Narketpalli State highway at Annavarappadu village in Rompicherla mandal in the wee hours of Sunday.

According to the police, the accident took place when three families from Piduguralla and Gudipadu villages of Krosuru mandal were returning to their native place in a car from Tirupati.

The deceased were identified as Pothuri Jhansi (41), Kodamagundla Manyata (4) and Pothuri Rohit Kumar (12). Another woman Kodamagundla Mothi (35) died while undergoing treatment at Narasaraopet government hospital in Guntur district.

Narasaraopet DSP K Nageswara Rao, along with Rompicherla police, rushed to the spot, and shifted the injured K Triveni, K Mangatayaru, K Charan, K Yedukondalu and others to Narasaraopet government hospital for treatment. Kapalavai Bhagyalakshmi lodged a complaint with the police at Rompicherla.

ASI J Ramulu registered a case and took up investigation. The police said the accident took place as the car driver dozed off while driving.
