VIJAYAWADA: A blast, suspected to be a crude bomb explosion, claimed the lives of three brothers on the outskirts of Kurnool town of Andhra Pradesh today afternoon. The trio along with some other workers set afire to the bushes that grew in their open plot when the explosion took place, police said.
According to police, the trio identified as Jampala Rajasekhar, Jampala Mallikarjun and Jampala Srinivasulu of Budhawaripet in Kurnool town have a three-acre open plot adjacent to the municipal dumping yard on the Kurnool-Nandyal main road. On Tuesday, they along with some revenue staff went to the open plot to get a re-survey of the borders done.
As the land was covered with bushes, the revenue staff asked the owners to get them cleared they that they can do their job easily. The brothers hired workers and got the bushes cleared and after making them as a heap, the workers set the heap on fire. Suddenly, an explosion took place injuring the three brothers seriously and another person escaped with minor injuries.
While one of them died instantly, the two others were shifted to Kurnool hospital where they succumbed to injuries.
Kurnool SP Gopinath Jetty said the explosives were of low intensify and crude bombs are suspected to be the reason for the blasts.
Police suspect that some unknown persons might have disposed of the crude bombs in the open plot as it was near to the municipal dump yard and they went off when the bushes were set on fire. Kurnool and Nandyal are known for faction-related incidents over the past few decades but the violence had come down drastically over the past few years.
