Aged couple get back property papers from son in Kakinada of Andhra Pradesh

Ravi’s father wants to sell a portion of land to fund his kidney transplant costing R12 lakh

KAKINADA: The aged couple who turned to police on Sunday seeking mercy killing after their son’s refusal to support their medical treatment and appropriated their property, finally got back documents of their house and land on Monday.

Pitta Appa Rao and Lakshmi from Sarpavaram had met East Godavari SP Vishal Gunni on Sunday and sought mercy killing because of their son’s callous attitude. Responding to their plight, the SP directed police to help the couple.

Sarpavaram police stepped in and counselled the couple’s son Ravi who immediately returned the property documents to their parents.

Appa Rao, a kidney patient, wants to sell a part of his property to meet expenses for regular dialysis. He is also planning to undergo kidney transplantation, which, according to him, costs about `12 lakh. However, his son was against the idea and refused to give back the property documents. Finding no other means of raising money for such an expensive medical treatment and unable to convince his recalcitrant son, Appa Rao and his wife on the advice of his friends and relatives took the desperate step of approaching police.

Now the couple are a relieved lot. They plan to sell a portion of the land and fund the treatment of his kidney ailment. He has even applied to a private hospital in Visakhapatnam for kidney transplantation. If he gets a suitable kidney through Jeevandan, medical expenditure would be considerably lower.

When TNIE contacted, the couple, thanking this paper and the police for their help, said they would want to protect their house property for the future of their grandchildren -- son and daughter of his son Ravi. The couple has two daughters, who are well-settled. Their only worry is their son’s children, they said.
