Heatwave likely in 60 mandals in Andhra Pradesh today

Though it was predicted that more mandals in the State would have heatwave on Thursday, only Tanuku in West Godavari district reported heatwave.

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has predicted severe heatwave conditions in four mandals, three in Anakapalle and one in Kakinada districts on Friday. 

Heatwave conditions are expected in 60 mandals, including 15 in Anakapalle, 14 in Kakinada, eight each in Guntur and Vizianagaram, three each in Konaseema, NTR and Visakhapatnam, two in YSR and one each in Alluri Sitarama Raju, Krishna, Palnadu and Parvathipuram Manyam districts. 

Though it was predicted that more mandals in the State would have a heatwave on Thursday, only Tanuku in West Godavari district reported heatwave. 

As per the realitme data of APSDPA (Planning Department), the highest temperature of 40.79 degree Celsius was reported in Rapur of Nellore district. This was the only place that recorded the daytime temperature of above 40 degree Celsius.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department said the cyclonic storm Mocha over Southeast Bay of Bengal moved northwards with a speed of 6 kmph during the past 6 hours, and lay centered about 510 km west of Port Blair on Thursday. It is very likely to move nearly northwards and gradually intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and further into a very severe cyclonic storm by Friday morning over Central Bay of Bengal.

Thereafter, it is likely to recurve gradually and move north-northeastwards with further intensification. It is likely to cross Southeast Bangladesh and North Myanmar coasts between Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and Kyaukpyu (Myanmar) on May 14 In the 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Thursday, rainfall occurred at isolated places over Coastal Andhra,  Yanam and Rayalaseema. Dry weather is likely across the State on Friday with gradual rise in temperature by 2° to 4°C.
