Jagan govt committed to welfare of disabled: Minister Usha Sricharan

CM Jagan believed that there is a need to improve education to provide equal opportunities to the disabled and enable them to live independently with self-respect and full participation in society.

VIJAYAWADA: Minister for Women and  Child Welfare KV Usha Sricharan said, “The Jagan government is committed to the empowerment of the disabled in Andhra Pradesh.”Stating that the government has recently issued regulations for the protection of the rights of the disabled, she said the state-level advisory councils for the disabled have been formed, and district committees have been formed under the chairmanship of the collectors in the districts.

CM Jagan believed that there is a need to improve education to provide equal opportunities to the disabled and enable them to live independently with self-respect and full participation in society, she added. She further informed that As a part of that, the CM has issued orders providing 5% reservation for the disabled in all government higher educational institutions and government-aided higher educational institutions.

In addition, Minister Usha Sricharan informed that the maximum age limit for admissions in higher educational institutions has been relaxed by five years to provide equal opportunities to disabled people due to disability.
