TRANSCO replaces old electric appliances to conserve energy

VIJAYAWADA: Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APTRANSCO) has taken an initiative in the energy efficiency front to reduce energy costs for the auxiliary units at substations through the implementation of energy efficiency measures in around 158  Extra High Tension (EHT) substations across the state.

During a virtual review meeting on infrastructure developments of APTRANSCO with special chief secretary (energy) K Vijayanand, transmission corporation joint managing director (JMD) K Chakradhar Babu explained that a major portion of energy efficiency measures in APTRANSCO has been completed with the replacement of the old electrical appliances in EHT substations with energy efficient electrical appliances such as 9W LED bulbs, 20W LED tube lights, high-efficiency BLDC fans, 70W and 110W yard lights and 190W flood lights.

He said that the APTRANSCO has entered into MoU with APSECM and provided funding support for the implementation of energy efficiency measures in 70 EHT sub-stations in Vijayawada zone in the circles of Guntur, Ongole, Krishna, and Nellore Circles in the State and completed installation of energy-efficient appliances in all these substations.

Besides, in coordination with Andhra Pradesh State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation (APSEEDCO), they have taken up energy efficiency measures in 69 EHT substations in the Visakhapatnam zone and 102 EHT substations in Kadapa zone. Out of these, energy efficiency measures were implemented in 35 substations in Visakhapatnam zone and 53 substations in Kadapa zone.

The estimated savings in 70 substations are around 2.58 Million Units per annum worth of Rs 1.87 crore with an investment of Rs 1.52 crore and return on investment in 10 months, Chakradhar said.JMD also explained that apart from energy efficiency measures in EHT substations, APTRANSCO has taken transmission loss reduction measures to reduce losses under 2.8 per cent which is one of the lowest transmission losses in the country.
