VIJAYAWADA: Observing that Public Interest Litigation (PIL) is a valuable judicial remedy that cannot be invoked to further political interests, the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday adjourned by two weeks the hearing on a YSRCP leader’s plea alleging large-scale irregularities in the Mega DSC-2025 recruitment process, while directing the petitioner to place on record the government’s alleged warnings of civil and criminal action against those speaking publicly on the issue.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Lisa Gill and Justice Medamalli Balaji made the observation after the State argued that the PIL, filed by YSRCP MLC Parvathareddy Chandrasekhar Reddy, was not maintainable as it had been instituted by a political party functionary. The Bench remarked that PILs are meant to serve genuine public interest and should not be misused for political purposes.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel contended that the government’s alleged warnings had created an atmosphere of fear, discouraging affected candidates from approaching the court. Taking note of the submission, the Bench directed the petitioner to produce the alleged government communications warning of civil and criminal action against those raising allegations over the Mega DSC recruitment process.
The court also asked the petitioner to clarify the proposal to implead candidates claiming to have been adversely affected by the recruitment as respondents in the PIL. The Bench posted the matter for further hearing after two weeks.
