NEW DELHI: Hanuman Jayanti passed off peacefully in the national capital amid tight security, especially in Uttam Nagar and Jahangirpuri, with no major law and order issues reported, officials said. Security was heightened in Uttam Nagar due to a recent incident on Holi, and in Jahangirpuri, where clashes had broken out in 2022, to maintain law and order.

A police officer from Dwarka district said that a procession was carried out on the occasion on Thursday, for which elaborate security arrangements were made by Delhi Police. Along with Delhi Police, personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force were also deployed, and all arrangements were in place and functioning properly.

“This religious procession is taken out every year, and it is being conducted today as well. The atmosphere remains peaceful, and we are maintaining full vigilance. I appeal to everyone not to believe any misinformation being spread,”he said.

“If anything goes viral, please verify it with Delhi Police. We are present on the ground and fully available to assist, ensuring that the procession continues smoothly. Security personnel have been deployed on all sides as part of the arrangements,” the officer stated.

Tension had gripped Uttam Nagar following a fight between two neighbours on Holi over allegedly throwing a balloon at a woman. The clash led to injuries on both sides, and one person died the next day. Security has remained heavy in the area since then, including during Eid celebrations.

Across the northwest district, police carried out intensive and highly visible bike patrolling, along with a flag march, to strengthen peace, security, and public confidence ahead of the celebrations.

According to police, three separate processions were carried out in Jahangirpuri. In 2022, eight police personnel and a local resident were injured in stone-pelting and arson after clashes during a Hanuman Jayanti procession on April 16.

Several companies of paramilitary forces, along with police personnel, were deployed. CCTV cameras and drones were used extensively to monitor movement, while barricades were installed at key points to regulate crowds and prevent any untoward incidents, police said.

Earlier, police issued an advisory stating that all religious processions would follow designated and regulated routes, finalised after assessing security and traffic considerations. Participation was capped at 500 people, with no animals or unauthorised structures allowed.

Carrying weapons, firearms (including imitation), lathis, or hazardous items was strictly prohibited. No provocative slogans, speeches, or activities affecting communal harmony were permitted. Loudspeakers were allowed only as per prescribed norms and timings.

An Aman Committee meeting was also held at the Jahangirpuri police station to strengthen coordination with community representatives and ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the festivities.
