TUMKUR: The residents of Tiptur town are on cloud nine after the tank in Tiptur town, which was dry for almost three decades, received water from the Hemavathy river on Thursday.

Thousands of residents had gathered to witness the historical event at the Amanikere big tank. Religious head from Keregodi Rangapura Sri Guruparadeshikendra Swamiji inaugurated the project. The initiative of MLA B C Nagesh paid off as the lift irrigation project was implemented to fill the tank. Earlier, the MLA had got the tank desilted without investing a penny from the government exchequer; but earned about Rs 5 lakh as revenue.
