BANGALORE: Aiming at developing productivity and quality of mangoes, Horticulture Department is coming up with Mango Development Centres in Kolar and Chikballapur.
“The work has already begun and it will be completed by July,” said Additional Director of Horticulture (Fruits) S V Hittalmani.
He said the centres will will provide training and demonstration to farmers about the best cultivation technologies. “Farmers will also be provided with post-harvesting handling like marketing and exporting technologies,” he said.
Under the National Horticulture Scheme, mango cultivators are also being provided subsidy for rejuvenation of old orchards.
“Of the total 1.4 lakh hectares of land under mango cultivation in the state, 30 per cent of the land fall under old orchards group,” he said.
“Farmers are provided a sum of `15,000 for development of one hectare of old orchards."
