BANGALORE: In the last decade, the state government rescued 103,902 child labourers from across the state. The children were rehabilitated under the National Child Labours Action Plan supported by the Union Government.

   In the Legislative Assembly, Labour and Sericulture Minister B N Bacchegowda said that since 2003, about 85,391 of the rescued children were taught at day schools while 15,453 children were rehabilitated under the state government’s Child Labour Action Plan.

Bacchegowda informed that the department officials conducted raids on establishments and shops to prevent child labour. Since 2001-02, over 365,740 raids were conducted and 18779 criminal cases were registered. “The department officials have also collected a penalty of `75,67,285 from the violators of the Child Labour Act,” he said.
