MYSORE: In a major breakthrough, the Mandya police have arrested the prime accused in the death of Suvarna from Ambalawadi village in Maddur taluk.

The accused Ramakrishna, father of Suvarna, was arrested for hanging his daughter to death for falling in love with a Dalit boy.

Ramakrishna, a prominent leader in Koppa Hobli of Nagamangala constituency, was at large after Dalit organisations lodged a police complaint accusing him and ten others for the death of Suvarna.

Malvalli DySP Uthappa, Circle Inspector Prashanth arrested Ramakrishna in Bangalore.

Police have so far arrested nine of the eleven accused in the case.

The Dalit families who lodged the complaint and brought to light the honour killing incident had left the village fearing attacks from upper caste families.

However, Superintendent Kwshalendra Kumar visited the village and police security has been stepped up.

It may be recalled that the Dalit organisations and Vokkaliga forums have taken out separate rallies accusing each other, giving the case a caste colour
