BANGALORE: Mysore, the city of palaces, seems to be competing with north Karnataka regions as far as weather is concerned. On Friday, mercury touched 35 degree Celsius in the city, while Bidar recorded the maximum temperature of 36.2 degrees.
Mysore never used to experience such a high temperature in March, the beginning of the summer season. The city is always known for cool and salubrious weather. But things have changed of late due to various reasons.
The burning sun has forced Mysoreans to use umbrellas and drink a lot of cool drinks to beat the heat. This harsh weather is expected to remain for some more days.
Bangalore recorded 33 degree Celsius, while the North Karnataka districts continued to sizzle. Gulbarga recorded 36 degree Celsius, while the temperature touched 35.7 degrees in Bellary.
Indian Meteorological Department Director B Puttanna said, “A temperature of 35 degree Celsius in early March is surprising for cities like Mysore. Going by previous records, when the temperature rose high it resulted in thunder showers. So, we can expect some showers after March 12 this time and if that happens then people will relax a bit.” Surprisingly, Belgaum district experienced cold wave with temperature dropping to 8.6 degrees on Friday morning.
